About Victorinox..

In the 1800's, Switzerland was one of the poorest countries in Europe. Karl Elsener in 1884 decided to open his first Cutler's Workshop in a bid to combat poverty and unemployment, seeking to create jobs for the local people.

In 1891 he supplied the first Soldier's Knife to the Swiss Army, then went on to develop the Swiss Officer's Knife and Sports knife. This created a foundation for a flourishing business that would hold its own through the decades. After his mother's passing in 1909, Karl Elsener chooses her first name and the addition of Inox as this is the metal name for stainless steel, registering the cross emblem and shield as the trademark. By 1945 U.S soldiers stationed in Europe were buying these knives in huge quantities to take back home as souvenirs.

By 2014, Victorinox AG is still managed by the fourth generation of the Elsener family, celebrating their 130th anniversary. They bought out and incorporated the Wenger Swiss knife brand and is now known the world over with the brand appearing on clothing, travel goods, watches, fragrances as well as their iconic Swiss Army Knives in an ever extending range.
