Snugpak

Snugpak come a long way since 1977 when their founder Brett Harris noticed a gap in the UK market for body warmers and taught himself to sew at his kitchen table so that he could create products to fill that gap. They built on this experience and now they are selling outdoor clothing and equipment around the world. Their products are found at the top of mountains and the bottom of oceans and everywhere in between.

Snugpak is based in a listed mill built in the 1800's in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales with a dedicated workforce, trained in traditional sewing techniques with state of the art machinery.

It started out as a cottage industry founded by Brett Harris in the 1970's making body warmers at his kitchen table. As demand for this new product grew, Brett took on more staff, advertised at exhibitions and expanded his clothing range into the realm of pack size sleeping bags. With bespoke machinery and local engineers, low weight, low size sleeping bags were born. By 1987, Brett had launched Softie insulation which was a viable alternative to down filling, introducing the Softie 3 sleeping bag in 1998.

Having developed this synthetic fill, Snugpak made a synthetic deep sea dive suit which went on to win the Millennium Product Award for Design By the early 2000's Snugpak had become internationally well known with a lot of business from the military sector. In 2002 they won the Queen's Award for Enterprise. Snugpak, under new management in 2006 began to diversify into camping accessories and travel items and also win the Queen's Enterprise Award for the 2nd time.

Snugpak as part of their support for the Centre Point charity, which helps homeless young people, made one of the biggest sleeping bags in the world, weighing 80kg! for the Annual Sleep Out event in 2014. It took an hour to roll out and stretched to 20 metres!

Snugpak make a huge range of clothing, sleeping bags, tents and hammocks now, catering for the military, emergency services, global travellers as well as the humble backpacker.
