In 1947 Francois Salomon and his son Georges began the Salomon brand, making saw blade and ski edge fabrication in Annecy, France to become today, the biggest ski brand in the world. By 1969, Salomon was busy listening to ski consumers with the vision to improve and was also becoming successful making ski and Nordic binding and boots, later going on to making their own alpine skis.
Wanting to progress further and knowing that their playground wasn't just the ski slopes, they moved into the hiking world with a new range of hiking boots and shoes. in 1997 Salomon leapt into new sports territories such as snow boarding, adventure racing, inline skating and surfing. With the help of developers and athletes Salomon introduced their own apparel too.
By 2006, Salomon decided to dedicate themselves to mountain sports. Trail running replaced adventure racing, soft goods became a real success and they developed faster, lighter footwear, clothing and gear. Reverse camber technology on their skis was introduced, taking alpine skiing to a higher level. Today Salomon is a huge, global brand with a huge range of outdoor gear: Footwear, clothing, bags and packs, protective helmets and googles, and Alpine, Nordic and snowboarding equipment.
In 2005 Salomon was sold to Amer Sports of Finland, has over 3,000 employees and still based in Annecy, France.
