Merrell was founded by Randy Merrell in 1981. He had just graduated from industrial shoe making college and had already started his Country and Western boot making business.
Randy decided to collaborate with two ski company executives, Olympians Clark Matis and John Schweitzer, proving to be a great combination together designing affordable high quality hiking boots for the growing backpacking industry in the U.S.
With Horween leather, a sheepskin lined footbed, iconic blue lacing and a Vibram sole, the Original Wilderness boot was born.
By 1983 they had produced their first women's specific fit footwear and through the 80's and 90's started producing running and cross training footwear along side the famous Jungle Moc which became a favourite for casual after sport activities. Merrell has grown and grown producing boots, shoes, sandals and water shoes, encouraging people of all ages to get out there and explore the outdoors.
