It's 3 am, the moonlit sky is clear the snow is crisp and the climb is yours for the taking, if only you could stop shivering and focus.

Mountain Equipment nailed the design for technical duvet jackets nearly forty years ago with the Lightline and through continuous product improvement it remains a benchmark by which many others are measured.

Far from being stuck in the 70's the Lightline is made for the demanding requirements of modern mountaineers to bring extraordinary warmth in freezing conditions.

The outer defies wind and sheds most moisture, but of course is highly breathable. A substantial quantity of high loft pure Codex down, with a simple stitched through construction to keep the down evenly placed avoids cold spots. The reinvented detachable hood insulates one of the biggest heat generators – your brain – ensuring you can think straight, as well as see straight, even in howling icy winds. Large hand warmer pockets and an internal zipped pocket with stuff sack. Micro fleece lined collar and chin guard.

While it may never see the Alps, for miserable winter mornings and evenings in Lancashire this jacket is excellent. Warmth is great but still breathable enough for 20-30mins walking at a decent pace before it starts getting too warm. Waterproofing better than expected... been caught in a couple of torrential downpours and the jacket held up well and appeared to shed all the rain. Looks wise, I like that it is less shiny and bulky looking than the Rab and Montane equivalents. Size wise I think the cut is very flattering, I'm 5'11, 16 stone rugby type build and I found the large to be perfect when wearing with just one or two baselayers. If however if I was using it as a belay over 2 or 3 layers I would go for an XL. Built up collar and hood also better than equivalent jackets I tried on. Overall probably the best jacket I've ever owned, we'll done ME. Also E-OUTDOOR thanks for the quick delivery and best price around, plus 15% voucher code!
