The external fabric is smooth to the touch and treated with DWR* to shed light rain (a great quality in any down jacket). The shoulders have a double layer of fabric which makes it more durable, so it won't wear away under rucksack straps. The double layer also provides additional weather protection on the most exposed part of your torso.
The large tooth plastic zipper runs smoothly whatever the temperature and is designed to zip into other The North Face jackets from their hard shell range. To this end there are also clips on the cuffs to attach the sleeves inside the hard shell, preventing them from pulling out of the outer shell. Two generously sized hand warmer pockets with zips and an internal chest pocket provide warmth and also confidence that vital pieces of kit, from your car keys to a spare carabina are secure and easily accessible.
A generous, well insulated collar with brushed lining and a storm baffle running the full length of the front zip gives added warmth and comfort, plus cinch cords for the waist hem. Velcro cuff adjusters keep the cold draughts out and your hard earned warmth in. A very snug and comfortable jacket or mid layer in extremes.
The North Face logo is prominent on both the front and back, so everyone will know you're wearing one of the mostly highly regarded, hotly desired down jackets on the market, even if you are only shovelling the snow off your driveway.
*DWR means Durable Water Repellent. It is a coating added to the fabric when it is made which makes the outer skin of the jacket water resistant or hydrophobic.
