Being comfortable and able to get a good nights sleep is paramount when you have a long days climb ahead of you of say fifteen hours plus, otherwise you just won't keep up the pace. The Exped DownMat 7 is an enormous step forward from the humble foam mat and is packed full of 700 fill power of goose down for all important extra insulation. It also has an integrated pump so you don't have to breathe into it and dampen the filling. The outer is a durable and tough laminated polyester with a honeycomb pattern on the top so you get better grip when in your sleeping bag. When sleeping in alpine conditions, the Exped insulates the warmth from your body, keeping you elevated above the snow and you are about 7cm up so less chance of getting cold spots. This incredibly comfy mat has a pack size similar to a loaf of bread so best left at Base Camp, but ideal for more normal camping trips or shorter routes when hauling kit.
