Buffalo are pioneers of a one-layer system of insulated, waterproof, breathable clothing. Whatever the conditions - Buffalo.
In the late 1970's Hamish Hamilton became interested in how the Inuit kept warm by making the most of the natural material available to them. Inuit reverse the hide of the skin so that the fur was on the inside ensuring that moisture in the air was able to circulate and escape through the porous hide. Hamish was fascinated by this unlike other outdoor designers and set out to make products with comfort from the inside rather than waterproofness from the outside.
In Sheffield Hamish established a small workshop where he could develop and manufacture a sleeping bag system which incorporated adding layers so that it could be used in all weather conditions all year long. Buffalo Sleeping Bags were the first to use Pertex combined with fibre pile and still give unbeatable for performance in wet and extreme conditions.
Outdoor enthusiasm, from cycling, climbing, caving and walking to paragliding and cross country skiing was. key and central to all of the design ideas at Buffalo and making products for serious outdoor people became the goal. Buffalo continue to work with outdoor professionals to ensure they meet the requirement of the user of each specific item.
