Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

Built with the attention to detail you’d expect from The North Face, the Men’s Vindicator Mid GTX is a trusted classic for light to medium hiking. The velvet suede upper is both soft and durable, shaking off the scuffs and scrapes your feet encounter out on the trails, while a gusseted tongue on the mid-cut blocks stones and other debris from creeping in and a toe cap and mudguard heels add reinforcement at the front and back. There’s a Gore-Tex membrane for waterproof security, and a grippy Vibram outsole for superior traction over varied terrain. The boot’s supportive North Fit construction is developed with athletes to make sure the shoe meets the demands of the feet all day long.
