Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

On adventures that flit between the water and dry land, the Women’s El Rio are the sandals to strap up. Its synthetic nubuck upper is water-friendly and dries quickly, while the HydroTrak outsole helps to channel water quickly away. It also contributes a high degree of traction on slick surfaces, the super-sticky rubber keeping feet where they should be in the wet. The sandals are also designed with convenience in mind, a hook-and-loop enclosure system enabling quick access and a removable heel strap facilitating a slide-on option if desired. An AgION treatment finishes the design, its antimicrobial technology resisting the growth of odour-causing microbes on the footbed.
