Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

The Blencathra IA in addition to being waterproof, is relatively on the light side making it very practical for days out walking in the country side without worrying too much about the weight on your back. It's active fit, allowing you the freedom of movement while you are wearing it. The Blancathra AQ2 fabric has been designed for outdoor enthusiast use. It has been tried and tested and found that it offers good waterproofing and breathability. AQ2 provides a hydrostatic head of 10000mm H2O column ensuring the fabric remain waterproof and You, the user remain protected from all but the harshest of weather conditions.
