Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

"I bought the North Face Chilkat II boot for my recent trip to Finnish lapland. The delivery of the product was quick it was the lowest price in the market. I bought the size 9. I usually use the North face walking shoes size 7 for walking. So bought 2 size higher after reading other reviews. It was perfect size for me because I needed to wear 2 or 3 socks and warmers in the extreme cold in Finland. The product was completely waterproof. When I was wearing thick woollen socks it was very tight at the toe. Otherwise very comfortable. Much better than the cheap alternatives. "

"Great boots and look good too, used them on a trip to Iceland last week and didnt need thermal socks as they were so warm and comfortable, tackled all surfaces with ease, a great all round boot for the cold weather"

"Great boots. very comfy. very grippy in the snow and warm too. not yet had a chance to see how waterproof they are. Might get a bit too hot for summer use. Ive always been a size 10 but had to send these back and get a 10.5 so order slightly larger as my wife had the same issue with similar north face boots. "
