Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.

The Mountain Equipment Gasherbrum Men's Jacket is an incredible piece of technical clothing. It is packed with features that will ensure a comfortable hike or expedition in alpine conditions. This down jacket is designed for the coldest locations and so is stuffed with a high quality 750+ Hungarian Goose Down fill insulation, which is held in place using box-wall baffle construction rather than stitch through construction to maintain a consistent even level of warmth across the whole coat. The outer and lining of the Gaherbrum Jacket is a He30 rs technology fabric, this is incredibly lightweight and down-proof, so no down will be escaping through the weave. The outer has also been treated with a water resistance and a rip stop finish to protect the coat's down and ensure that it lasts against any scuffs or abrasion. The down insulation is extended into the helmet compatible hood. A roomy, very warm, hood which features a Velcro adjustable strap on the back and a draw cord so you can gather it around your face maintaining full visibility. The coat sports two large hand pockets with zipper closures as well as a zippered internal accessories pocket and an internal mesh water bottle pocket. The sturdy, two-way YKK moulded central zip closure is placed behind an insulated Velcro storm flap,  front and behind. The down jacket can be adjusted to fit with the aid of the Velcro cuff straps and the hem cinch-cord, which is split rather than a loop so it wont catch on anything while you're out and about. The baffles on the inside back of the coat and the inside of the hood have been crafted using the EXL system that Mountain Equipment™  have used in their sleeping bags, this means the baffles are stretchy and will mould to your body to give an absolute warmth and a tailored internal fit - excellent.
