Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

A classic, box quilted style coat, theIceguard coat is not only extremely warm but windproof, too, courtesy of the super-lightweight, high tear strength stormlock active ripstop shell fabric. Beneath the shell, a thick layer of microguard silver provides superb insulation, an interlining material that delivers a nicely balanced and warm wear climate, even in lower temperatures, and was originally developed for use in our high performance sleeping bags. The longer, knee-length cut and internal cold block fleece cuffs contribute to the effectiveness of this winter heating system.

"I love this coat. I was looking for a plain, stylish, warm winter coat that didnt have any fuss; no fake fur trim, or belt or shiny wet look fabric etc, and didnt want to pay a fortune. I knew the Jack Wolfskin brand would be built for functionality rather than fashion and it is perfect. Its really really warm but light to wear and not bulky at all, unlike others I have tried, so you dont feel like youre walking about in a duvet. I ordered a size Large (UK 16) in the Granite colour, which is a sort of murky khaki. Im 5.9" and it comes down to the top of my knee. I have had loads of compliments on my lovely new winter coat and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Added bonus was the excellent price, the cheapest I had found. Very satisfied customer."
