Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

  • TEXAPORE TASLITE 2L: The weight-optimised version of TEXAPORE TASLAN 2L. It is similarly resistant to mechanical abrasion and just as hard wearing as the original but is slightly lighter in weight. Hydrostatic head: 6000mm, MVTR: 9000g/m2/24h
  • NANUK 150 AIRLOFT: A very light, particularly breathable, ver warm fleece with HIGHLOFT structure. The use of 150-weight fleece and a mesh material as a base makes this fleece incredibly light. The new structure also makes the fabric more compactable and breathable.
  • NANUK 150: lightweight polyester fleece fabrics with a velour finish on both sides and outstanding warmth-to-weight performance. These fleeces are highly breathable, easy care and fast drying.

Jack Wolfskin Galaxy Mens Jacket

The GALAXY is a new 3-in-1 hiking jacket with a sporty, cropped style. In keeping with its active hiking credentials, the jacket combines a lightweight yet robust weather protection fabric with extremely breathable fleece insulation.

Jack Wolfskin opted for TEXAPORE TASLITE as the fabric for the shell jacket and teamed this with a highly sophisticated inner jacket consisting of two different types of fleece. The main fleece fabric is NANUK 150 AIRLOFT, which has a mesh backing fabric that makes it more breathable than conventional fleece and a highloft structure, which means it is very warm and has a more compact pack size. To limit bunching, the sides and sleeve panels of the inner jacket consist of 150 grade velour fleece.The GALAXY is a great choice for fast and light hiking.
