Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

Hedgehog Tall GTX XCR III Technologies:

  • GORE-TEX FOR FOOTWEAR: Provides durable waterproof protection from rain and snow.
  • HEAL CRADLE: The North Face Heal Cradle consists of a polyurethane (PU) foundation with five pegs protruding vertically from it. A soft EVA panel is placed over the pegs, locking the two together like building blocks. The top layer of soft EVA has a slightly cupped shape that literally cradles the heel, helping to stabilize it in the process. It also works with the underlying PU to absorb impact. Lastly, it offers more lateral/medial stability, positioning the foot for a smooth transition into the next stage of the stride cycle.
  • NORTHFIT: NorthFit outfit the outdoor athlete with the most precise fit between the human foot and a footwear last, as they both relate to the demands of the activity.
  • NORTHOTIC FOOTBED: The Northotic is a multi-density footbed that provides enhanced stability, support and cushioning on the trai
  • SNAKE PLATE: SnakePlate provides protection as well as an intimate feel for any surface. High abrasion sticky rubber grips all surfaces, including the occasional water-slickened rock field. A heel crash pads stand up to repeated pounding, stride after stride. Breathablity lets the foot stay cool while drainage lets it dry out after a river crossing.
  • VIBRAM OUTSOLE TECHNOLOGIES: We collaborated with Vibram, long respected for quality and durability, to create various outsoles (Vibram Humbolt Outsole, Vibram Mikeno Outsole, Vibram Walsh Outsole, and Vibram Rubber Outsole Compound) with superior traction, stability and protection.
