Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

The boots feature an advanced HydroSeal membrane for dependable defence against rain and snow, layered on to The North Face’s own, renowned Base Camp fabric, specially engineered for resistance to abrasion and the elements. Inside is a canvas lining and removable sock liner for a comfy foot feel, while underfoot is a sturdy rubber outsole, made from partially recycled material and featuring protective foxing. When the weather is foul at camp or about town, this is a dependable, long-serving choice.
