Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

Engineered as part of the rigorously tested, best-in-class Summit Series, this thermal jacket is amply insulated throughout with plush 700 fill goose down and incorporates welded baffles to lock out the cold and retain valuable body heat. On the outside, a super-tough nylon ripstop shell resists abrasion as you pick your way to the freezing peak, while a fixed hood, also stuffed with down, gives maximum coverage to the head. Elasticated cuffs and a hem cinchcord provide a no-slip fit and wrapped-round feel, and a slew of pockets include space inside for water bottles or other alpine essentials.
