Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

"As an all purpose winter duvet this is hard to beat, the box quilting is sound, cuffs adjust well, and although the hood is removable it is by no means an afterthought. You can buy much more expensive jackets but for most situations this is as good as you need."

"What a jacket.. VERY VERY warm. I will buy mountain equipment gear again. Thanks "

"Superfast delivery, The staff were very helpful when I returned the jacket for a smaller size. The jacket is very warm and well made. You may hear comments about it being bulkier than other down jackets. But at the end of the day if you want warmth the trade off is a slightly bulkier jacket. And the point is that it is only slight. A top quality jacket which is why it is a best seller. As a foot note the sizes are generous I would normally take a large but found the medium was the one for me. "

"This is, without doubt, the best jacket for outdoor use I have ever bought in many years. It is a high quality product and does all the things it should. Thank you very much."

"Another geat piece of kit from Mountain Equipment. Does exactly what it says, keeps warmth in, wind out and very nearly waterproof, only prolonged or heavy spells of rain to worry about."

Mountain Equipment Classic Lightline Mens Down Jacket Review submitted by R

"Brilliant jacket. Im very happy with it. Its well made, lightweight, very warm and windproof, water-resistant in a shower (though obviously not in a downpour) and dries quickly, the hand-warmer pockets are deep and the inside pocket is big enough to take an OS map. The clip-off hood is warm and convenient, although I always leave it on (just in case!). It has a draw-string around the waist, velcro tabs to close the wrists and a nice high collar, so its very cosy, although it does get rather sweaty if you go indoors with it on. And finally it rolls up very small to go into its own stuff-sack for portability. Strongly recommended. Perfect balance of weight, warmth and price!"
