Footwear Guide
  • Walking boots need to be a half to full size larger than your normal foot size to allow for the wearing of walking socks.
  • The actual fitting shape of the boot is brand dependent - different brands will hold your feet differently.
  • Allow for a finger's width fitting down back of a walking boot when wearing but before lacing up.
  • The boot shouldn't have any noticable pressure points or tight spots - there is no such thing as 'breaking in' a boot to loosen it up.
  • The ankle should feel restricted and supported in a way you are not used to at first.
  • Walking boots will always feel stiffer to wear.
  • Zamberlan & Scarpa brands have an overall narrower fitting.
  • Merrell in general tend to be shorter, so for normal fitting, get a size larger.
  • The Meindl Matrei is our widest boot - perfect for anyone who requires a wide fitting.
  • Shoe-style footwear and sandals have a regular fit and size.

At airport luggage carousels around the world you will see The North Face Base Camp Duffel being reclaimed by explorers and savvy travellers. Made from a durable laminate ballistic nylon and beefed up with extra bartacks and double stitching, this juggernaut of a bag is resilient enough to take any punishment that Air France baggage handlers or uncooperative pack animals can throw at it. The medium size devours 70 litres of gear. Locking D-zip with flap closes the main compartment which has internal mesh pockets. Four compression straps to lock down the load. Handles and straps abound so you can throw it on your back, tote in your hands or drag across the airport concourse.
